Kareen Jabre has presented the Inter-Parliamentary Union's report titled "Gender-sensitive Parliaments: a global review of good practice" to the European Parliament's Committee on Gender Equality and Women's Rights. In her reply to MEP Lívia Járóka, Vice-Chair of the committee, she underlined that the European Parliament ranked good in this respect, not only due to the high number of women among representatives and staff members, but also due to its sensitivity towards gender issues. Subsequently, the committee discussed the situation of unaccompanied minors in the European Union, where Járóka highlighted the need for a coherent and effective protection system, which considers the special needs of minor victims of human trafficking, with special regard to their identification, reception and protection in line with the relevant international conventions.

The committee continued with discussing the possible ways of tackling youth unemployment, where MEP Járóka underlined the hopeless situation of youth in poverty and emphasized that the training and entrepreneurship programs of the past had not been able to provide real and tangible opportunities for the youth of marginalized communities. She reminded that youth unemployment had a long-lasting negative effect also on the prospects of upcoming generations and urged therefore to replace superficial alibi-projects with easily accessible vocational and on-the-job trainings, in order to help young people acquire the cross-cutting skills that are most sought after in the labour market.
